Spiritual Reflection Question:
Considering the scripture in Matthew 7:1-5 about not judging others, how does my personal experience of being judged for my life choices before I understood my calling, and now being judged after my calling for the unconventional nature of it and the unseen realities I engage with, illuminate the wisdom of Jesus' words? How can I apply this teaching to my interactions with those who question or criticize my path?
This passage in Matthew hits home deeply. Before I even understood the unique way God was calling me – starting with my presence on a dating app and the experiences there – I was already facing judgment from loved ones based on their own perceptions of how I should be living. They saw a single woman on a dating app, a life choice that didn't fit their norms, and they judged it without understanding the deeper currents at play.
Now, after embracing my calling, the judgment hasn't stopped, it's just shifted its focus. Societal norms often demand tangible proof for anything beyond the easily observable. When I speak of spiritual battles, demonic influences, and a divine calling that began in such an unconventional space, and especially when I mention things like ascension or unseen realities, I'm met with skepticism and judgment again. People want empirical evidence for something that is inherently spiritual and personal. They're holding up their measuring stick of societal norms and scientific proof to a reality that operates on a different plane.
Matthew 7:1-5 reminds me that those who are so quick to judge often have their own "planks" to deal with – their own limited perspectives, biases, and perhaps even fears of the unknown. They are focused on the "speck" of my unconventional methods or the unseen aspects of my calling without recognizing the larger work God is doing or the sincerity of my obedience.
This scripture is a constant call to self-reflection for me. Am I judging others in any way? Am I approaching those who question me with humility and love, recognizing their own limitations in understanding? It reminds me that my focus shouldn't be on defending myself against every judgment, but on continuing to remove the "plank" from my own eye – to remain grounded in God's truth, to act in love, and to trust in the validity of the calling He has placed on my heart, regardless of whether it fits neatly into societal expectations or provides empirical proof for the skeptical. Ultimately, my responsibility is to walk in obedience and love, leaving the judgment to God.
Heavenly Father, as we reflect on the wisdom of Your Word and the journey You have uniquely crafted for each of us, we thank You for the reminder in Matthew 7:1-5 to extend grace and understanding rather than judgment. We pray for discernment, both for ourselves and for those who encounter our stories. May we all seek to remove the planks from our own eyes, approaching one another with love and humility. We commit this reflection and all who have read it into Your care, trusting in Your perfect timing and understanding. Amen.
