Daily Devotional Entry#125:
When Others Fail- “Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.”- Luke 17: 3 (NASB)
Q & A?:
Is there someone in your heart that keeps coming to mind, someone you might need to release from a place of hurt? And as you consider that, are you also sensing a gentle nudge to step away from any situation that feels truly damaging to your spirit?
My answer:
There's been a person on my mind lately. Not in an angry way, but more like a lingering shadow. It makes me wonder if there's still a bit of untangling to do in my heart, a release that needs to happen. It's not about saying what they did was okay, but maybe about letting go of the hold that hurt still has on me.
And as I think about that, I also feel this quiet prompting to be really honest with myself about where I'm at. Are there situations, not just with that person but maybe others or even just patterns in my life, that feel like they're consistently draining or harming me? It's a gentle nudge to be wise and to value my own well-being. The hardest part of that right now, if I'm truly honest, is the thought of trusting people again, of allowing myself to be vulnerable enough to potentially get hurt. It feels like building walls has become a way to survive, but my heart also longs for genuine connection.
It reminds me that sometimes, the most loving thing we can do, both for ourselves and in the bigger picture, is to create healthy boundaries. It's not about being unforgiving or running away from every challenge, but about recognizing when a situation is truly damaging and trusting that stepping back might be the right path, even if it feels counterintuitive to that desire for connection. It takes courage, especially when fear whispers that we should just endure or that vulnerability is weakness. But there's a deeper trust in knowing that God wants us to have peace and to be safe, both in our hearts and in our lives. It's about being both kind and firm with ourselves, trusting that drawing healthy boundaries is a form of self-care that honors the spirit within, and that healing also involves discerning who is truly safe to open up to again, in His timing. It's like that verse says, if someone sins against you, rebuke them, and if they repent, forgive them. But it also implies a need for wisdom in how we engage and protect ourselves as we navigate the path of forgiveness and renewed trust.
Heavenly Father, as we examine our hearts, we ask for Your gentle guidance in identifying those we need to release from past hurts. Grant us the wisdom to discern when we need to create healthy boundaries and step away from situations that harm our spirits, especially when the vulnerability of trust feels so difficult. Strengthen our courage to choose well-being and peace, knowing that You desire safety and healing for us. May we extend forgiveness where needed and trust in Your timing for renewed connection. Amen.
